FAQs

  • What is the difference between Psychotherapy and Life Coaching?

Psychotherapy is a regulated mental health service focused on mental health and emotional healing using psychotherapy techniques.

Life coaching is centered around personal development, goal setting, and achieving personal or professional aspirations.

If you’re unsure which service is right for you, I can help you determine that during our consultation.

Psychotherapy and Life coaching do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions.

  • Why are psychotherapy and life coaching offered separately?

Psychotherapy is a regulated profession in Canada. As a licensed and Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario, Canada, I must follow specific legal and ethical guidelines. This means I can only provide psychotherapy services to clients residing in Ontario, Canada.

Life coaching is not a regulated profession, unlike psychotherapy, which allows me to offer this service to clients in the United States, where coaching is focused on personal and professional development rather than mental health treatment.

  • Why are psychotherapy and life coaching priced in different currencies?

Since psychotherapy services are provided in Ontario, Canada, they are priced in Canadian dollars (CAD). Life coaching services, offered to clients in the United States, are priced in U.S. dollars (USD) to align with local financial standards. This ensures clarity in pricing and avoids currency conversion issues.

  • Can I book both psychotherapy and life coaching services?

If you are in Ontario, Canada, you can book psychotherapy for mental health support or life coaching for personal development. If you are in the United States, you can book life coaching services, as psychotherapy is only available within Ontario, Canada.

If you're unsure which service best suits your needs, I offer a free 20-minute consultation to help you decide.

  • How do I know if I need therapy or life coaching?

If you are struggling with mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, or trauma, psychotherapy is the right choice.

If you are looking for guidance on personal or professional goals, improving habits, or navigating life transitions, life coaching may be a better fit.

If you need further clarity, visit the Contact Page to send me a message or book a free consultation. I’m happy to help you determine the best option for your needs!

  • Is my information confidential in both psychotherapy and life coaching?

Yes, confidentiality is a top priority in both services.

As a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario, Canada, I follow strict confidentiality laws under the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the guidelines of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

Since Life coaching is not a regulated profession, it does not have the same legal confidentiality protections as psychotherapy. However, I still maintain professional ethics by keeping our conversations private.

If you’d like more details about privacy policies for either service, feel free to reach out through my Contact Page. I’m happy to provide clarity on how your information is handled.

  • Do you offer direct billing to insurance companies?

No, I do not currently offer direct billing. Clients are responsible for paying for their sessions upfront and submitting their receipts to their insurance provider for potential reimbursement.

  • Will my insurance cover psychotherapy services?

Many extended health insurance plans in Canada cover psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. However, coverage varies by provider and plan. I recommend checking with your insurance company to confirm whether Registered Psychotherapists are covered under your policy.

I offer a sliding scale for those who may need financial flexibility.

  • Do you offer sliding scale therapy?

Yes! I believe that therapy should be accessible, so I offer a sliding scale option for clients who need financial flexibility.

Please reach out for more details.

  • What information do you provide for insurance claims?

After each session, I provide a detailed receipt that includes my name, professional designation (Registered Psychotherapist), license number, session details, and payment confirmation. This receipt can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

  • How do virtual session work?

Virtual sessions are conducted through the Jane platform, a secure, PHIPA/HIPAA-compliant system designed to protect your personal health information., where we can meet face-to-face in a private, confidential environment. You can choose to meet from the comfort of your own home or any space that feels safe and comfortable for you.
